Debt relief services are a phone call away.
We need them, too. In our modern world, stuff to buy is everywhere. Then, once we finish our spending spree, we must pay for it.
Who’d have thought? Shopping’s fun. Paying the bill’s not.
God’s shopping list is more organized, and the excellent thing is that he takes care of writing all the checks afterwards.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us our credit line is open and ready for our use:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
James 4:14 encourages us not to overthink how much we need:
“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
Proverbs 16:3 reveals where God wants our money to go:
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Isaiah 55:9 says his check-writing ability is beyond our comprehension:
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Proverbs 19:21 prompts us to reevaluate our shopping lists:
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”
Luke 12:32 gives us the assurance that when we are aligned with God, our shopping spree has just begun:
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
In early 2016, the movie Risen hit theaters. It was less about the life of Jesus than it was about believing in the reality of Christ. When we truly find our faith in him, our goals, our aspirations, and our desires change. We are no longer the same as before. We no longer desire the things of this world, because they no longer provide the satisfaction they did before.
We no longer need to go into debt, because all the stuff out there isn’t what we need. We need Jesus. The stuff is simply how we survive until we step from this life into joy evermore with him.
When our shopping list is family, love, inspiration, our church, and imitating Christ, we don’t have to worry about the bills. Jesus has his checkbook already in hand.
