The Angels of God’s Winds

Wind is one of the most destructive forces on the planet. It is also one of the most beneficial. Without the wind, smog would smother the cleanest of our cities. Wind stirs the oceans, the major player in turning carbon dioxide back into oxygen.

Wind can also bring storms, or blow airborne diseases from one continent to another.

Yet wind, harnessed correctly, can also provide massive amounts of electricity.

Who would not want to control the wind?

Revelation 7:1 tells us:

“After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree.”

What can we take away from this verse? God controls the wind. He raises his hand, and the wind blows across the face of the land, or it is stilled, and life on earth suffers.

Why is this important? Let’s look at what this verse is really telling us. Revelation 7:2 starts with:

“And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God…”

The four angels of the wind are no more than precursors for this new angel. They are there to provide him strength and power. Yet, even as their purpose is to aid the fifth angel, they still retain the power to hinder him if they choose to do so.

Revelation 7:3 gives the fifth angel’s purpose:

“Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.”

Jesus came to earth to sweep forth as a mighty wind to bring salvation to all the nations of the world. How is he like the fifth angel? He protects us, keeping us from harm, for his only wish is to seal our foreheads with his seal of salvation.

Like the first four angels, we have the power to help or hinder our Lord’s work. We can hold the winds, or we can release them.

This begs an important question. What are we holding tightly in our hands, and does it help or hinder the Lord’s work? What do we release to sweep over our surroundings, and does it help or hinder the Lord’s work?

We each impact the power of the Angels of Gods Winds. What is important is how we affect that power.

We can use what’s in our hands to bless God or hinder him. Which will we choose?
