The Eunuch’s Seven Qualifications

In general terms, a eunuch is a man who has no personal ambitions or goals. He is considered the most loyal of servants, and his life’s work is to perpetuate the goals of his master.

In ancient times, no one was closer to the king than the eunuchs.

In the first chapter of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, has conquered the children of Israel. He does an amazing thing. Rather than make slaves of those under his boot, he calls his chief eunuch and sends him on a mission to bring him the brightest and best of those over whom he now rules. He gives his eunuch seven qualifications for his search:

From the Nobility or Royal Family

Zechariah 14:9 tells us: “And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.”

When we are part of God’s family, we are part of the royal family.

Without Blemish

Hebrews 9:14 tells us: “How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.”

The blood of Christ washed all our sin away, and we are left spotless in him.

Of Good Appearance

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 tells us: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Our spiritual appearance before God is intertwined with our physical appearance before man. Both should reflect our relationship with him.

Skillful in Wisdom

James 3:17 tells us: “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”

Choices based on the precepts of God establish our place in the house of God.

Endowed with Knowledge

Proverbs 18:15 tells us: “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

Knowledge about the Lord comes from the Word of God, the Bible. We must study his written instructions to learn about him.

Understanding Learning

Psalm 119:130 tells us: “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.”

God’s spirit reveals the truth of his Word. We study it, and he reveals the meaning within.

Competent to Stand in the King’s Palace

2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”

The study of God’s Word, when we allow it to mold who we are, is what allows us to stand in confidence before Christ the King.

We are called to the King’s house. He searches for us, the brightest and best. Will we be the ones selected? We will if he finds us worthy.

When we become what God desires, God begins to desire us.
