CORNUCOPIA is a word rarely used today, but the meaning is in our thoughts every time we come to God in prayer. We want to tap his abundance, his bounty, his wealth, his excess, and his profusion of goodness.
The image of the cornucopia paints a very specific picture, though. It is a basket with good things spilling out, so many that it cannot contain all the blessings God has for us.
That’s our CORNUCOPIA God, filled to excess with wealth and abundance, ready to share his bounty with us.
Let’s look at our CORNUCOPIA God:
C – He will give us a CROWN of glory.
1 Peter 5:4 is our assurance we will receive a crown from him. “And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading CROWN of glory.”
We will receive our due honor in that final day.
O – He breathed OUT the Scriptures for our benefit.
2 Timothy 3:16 reveals the sanctity of the Bible. “All Scripture is breathed OUT by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
No one can doubt the truth found in the Word.
R – He RESTS his power on our heads.
Acts 2:3 says, “And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and RESTED on each one of them.”
All power and might come from the Father above.
N – He is the good NEWS that satisfies our every need.
Proverbs 25:25 tells us, “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good NEWS from a far country.”
Jesus is the good NEWS sent by the Father above.
U – He blesses us UNTIL we need no more.
Malachi 3:10 gives us his conditions in the following verse: “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing UNTIL there is no more need.”
There is no lack that he cannot supply.
C – We COME to the Father through him.
John 14:6 presents the truth to us, as Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one COMES to the Father except through me.”
He offers us the one, true path to salvation.
O – He is the ONE and only ruler of the universe.
1 Timothy 2:5 assures us “there is ONE God, and ONE mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
We need look nowhere else, for the way to heaven is in front of us already.
P – He answers our PETITIONS without delay.
1 John 5:15 presents an ever-present truth to us. “And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the PETITIONS that we desired of him.”
We can depend on the Lord to provide all that we ask.
I – He is the INCREASE of all knowledge.
Daniel 12:4 tells us, “But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall INCREASE.”
There is no learning that does not come from the hand of the Father.
A – The days pass ACCORDING to his command.
Numbers 13:3 reveals Moses’ motives in all that he did. “So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, ACCORDING to the command of the Lord, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel.”
All Moses’ actions reflected the will and desires of the Lord.
Increase and abundance. Of all the synonyms that connect to the word CORNUCOPIA, none say it quite so well. The Lord God of all heaven overflows with blessings, and we will not be able to contain all that he showers upon us.
When we beseech God, his blessings will begin to fall all around us. We need to have our shopping baskets ready.
