Crushed by Gravity

No one can reach out and touch gravity.

It is not a “thing.” It is a force of nature, one that is inarguable and unstoppable.

The only way to avoid gravity is to run from it; to board a spaceship; to fling ourselves at tremendous physical and emotional cost into the abyss; and to exist solitary and alone in the blackness that surrounds us.

Gravity constantly works to pull things to their knees, shifting tall buildings on their foundations, and wiping the tallest mountains from the sky. It is a natural law that cannot be superseded.

Yet, gravity also keeps us safe, holding the water in the seas and the air against the earth. It is because of gravity that we can walk across a room, and babies don’t fly.

God is our spiritual gravity. He constantly draws everything to him. He enables us to exist each day, and he provides water and air for us to live.

He also works to bring the mechanisms of the devil to their knees, crushing them with the strength of his mighty hand.

Let’s look at four of God’s Laws of Gravity:

Revelation 20:10 tells us the devil and his minions will one day be thrown into a lake of fire and sulfur.

Romans 6:23 gives the price of sin, and it is death.

Jeremiah 23:5 is our assurance God will raise up a fist to crush the evil one.

Isaiah 2:2-4 reveals the true scope of God’s gravity. In this passage, God will judge the nations. His law will spread throughout all the world and none will be able to stand against his power.

God is the gravity that will bring sin and the works of man crashing down. No matter how high man reaches in his carnal self, God’s overwhelming holiness will bring those endeavors tumbling to the ground. All the works of man will fall to their knees, and all man’s greatest achievements will be wiped from the sky. They will have been crushed by gravity, by the unyielding power of the presence of the almighty God.

God’s gravity is one of his immutable laws, and it will affect us whether we like it or not. The positive note in all this? God is at the center of all creation, and the inescapable forces of his gravity always pull us toward him.

When we try to pull away from God, his yearning for his children always draws his creation back to him.
