Have you ever stood on the edge of something new—starting a job, moving cities, or facing a difficult change—and felt that mix of fear and excitement?
Even with faith, uncertainty can feel heavy.
But God specializes in leading His people through the unknown. In Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV), we’re told first:
“The Lord himself goes before you.”
Those words are a reminder that before we take a single step, God is already there—preparing the way, guiding outcomes, and making a path where one seems impossible.
When Israel first heard these words, they were about to step into the Promised Land without Moses. Their leader was gone, their future uncertain. Yet God didn’t just send them forward—He went before them. That same truth holds for us today. The job you’re scared to take, the healing you’re waiting for, the change you didn’t choose—God is already within it, clearing the path and working things together for your good (Romans 8:28).
These words continue in strength:
“He will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
We see this echoed in countless lives of faith. Pastor and author Rick Warren once shared that his deep loss—the death of his son—drove him into a season of grief, but God’s presence carried him through, giving him purpose to comfort others in pain.
The promise wasn’t that the pain would vanish—but that God would never leave.
So even when the road feels uncertain, remember: the same God who goes before you also walks beside you, strengthening every step.
The One who leads you into the unknown will never leave you to walk it alone.
