Morning Is on the Way

Twelve hours.

That’s how the world turns. Twelve hours of darkness and twelve hours of daylight.

The closer we are to the poles, the more that skews, ten-fourteen, or eight-sixteen, but it averages out wherever we live.

So, then, why do we let the darkness take away our joy? Who do we wake before dawn and let our thoughts stew in “what might have been” or “oh, if I’d never done that” or something similar?

Here’s what we must remember: Our life is like a series of movies filmed one day at a time. Each night, the filming wraps, and the finished product goes on a shelf. We can pull down the films and replay them, but they aren’t real life any longer, just impressions of something that has happened and is gone.

We can also choose to turn off the projector and not rewatch those old films. Just shut them down. And when we refuse to rewatch them, we also refuse to let them stir up the emotions that stew inside us.

Proverbs 23:18 in the NIV tells us to look ahead:

“There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”

We can’t revise the record of our life. It’s already in the can, so to speak. But today’s film is in the making, and tomorrow’s “shoot” is still being prepared.

There is hope for you, a future that isn’t set, and a chance to make tomorrow different. Step out with Jesus, and when the morning arrives, his joy will be yours.

Excerpt of the Day

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
