God’s Everlasting Promise

Being a child means taking time to dream.

What if? It could happen.

It’s also a time to forge links, to make connections, to—shall we say—form pinkie promises that we want to last forever.

Eventually pinkie promises—so easily made in the passion of the moment—turn into contracts, guarantees, warranties … even prenups. We can’t be confident our spouse isn’t in it just for the money.

Even love can be faked.

God’s pinkie promise—his contract, guarantee, even warranty—comes to us from Deuteronomy 8:9 where he says we will have …

“A land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper.” (NKJV)

We can pull five promises from this verse, no prenups required!

Promise No. 1: We will be given a land.

By land, we mean a home, a place that is ours, somewhere we can feel secure. We will not be cast out forever.

Promise No. 2: We will eat bread without scarcity.

Our table will groan with the sustenance God provides. Morning, evening, and night, we will not go without.

Promise No. 3: We will lack nothing.

This is water from our taps, a secure income, a faithful family … even vacation time when we need to destress from life.

Promise No. 4: Our stumbling stones will be iron.

The meaning behind this promise is monumental. The very things we stumble on will be the things God refines and fashions into our success.

Promise No. 5: Out of our hills will come copper.

Copper held great value in Biblical times. That mountain you are climbing? Just beneath the surface, God will reveal a great blessing that he wants you to receive.

So, take time to dream. Make a pinkie promise with God. God’s promises are never faked. They are everlasting assurances from an everlasting God.
