One mistake.
When it’s bad enough, that’s all it takes. We are overcome with shame, and we can’t see the light of anyone’s love.
Perhaps it’s a tragic accident that leaves a loved one injured or, God forbid, even dead.
Maybe our poor investment choices wiped out our child’s college fund.
Or we fell into temptation, and it’s stained our family’s reputation.
We feel the grit and dust of everyone’s disapproval. Even stepping through the church door, we sense the eyes of everyone burning into us.
God says, “That’s not how I feel!”
Lamentations 3:22-24 in the NIV is very clear where forgiveness is concerned:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’”
God affirms his love for you. His nature is to welcome his children back into the fold. He’s there to pick you up, look into your eyes, and say, “I still love you.”
That accident? God says we are forgiven, and he wants us to forgive ourselves.
Those investments? God says he can make our fortunes complete again.
Temptation? It’s part of the human condition. Jesus overcame the human condition, and you can, too.
It’s not the church that matters. It’s not someone else’s opinion that matters. It’s God that matters. When he forgives us, our mistakes are wiped from his memory as though they never were.
Step into the presence of God. In him, you are refreshed and new.
