The Wings of the Comforter

English Audio Version

The likeness of a dove is prevalent in Christian imagery.

We relate the graceful creature to the Holy Spirit, also known as the Comforter.

John 14:26 says:

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

Helper in the ESV is a synonym to the word comforter used in the veritable KJV we know and love. A comforter comes to us to help us through the conflicts and struggles we face.

So, what are your struggles today?

Is your family in conflict, with challenges to your parental authority?

Do you struggle with medications, needing more than the doctor prescribed?

Or do you struggle with questions of faith, asking where God has been when you’ve needed him?

2 Corinthians 1:5 gives us our help:

“For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.”

When we face struggles, we have Jesus at our side. He has been where we are, beaten down, hungry, abandoned by those he loved and trusted.

He tells us, “I understand,” and he really does.

Now is the time to look up. The wings of the Comforter are brushing the air, and your help is on the way.

When we look to Jesus, we will find the help that we need.
