It’s time to take a load off.
Toss away your shoes. Zonk out. Unwind and put your feet up.
The world doesn’t have to be yours to handle all alone.
Your children’s problems? Once they are grown, cut them free.
Your phlegmatic car? Consider a trade if finances allow.
That neighbor you can barely abide? Wave as you drive past and give them over to God.
Matthew 11:28 says:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Labor means to work, and taking care of other people is work. Keeping track of their problems . . . always being available . . . setting your life aside and letting them run yours . . .
QUIT IT. It’s not okay to trade your happiness for theirs.
Here’s what you do: Help when emergencies come along, but when the emergency fades, give them over to God. At some point in life (generally age 18) people must accept responsibility for themselves. You are no longer their keeper.
It’s you and Jesus from here on out. He wants to take away your stress, relieve your financial burden, and give you back your emotional security.
Let God be your champion. It’s what he wants. It’s time to release your trials and stress unto him.
Our rest comes in Jesus when we offer control of our lives unto him.
