Winter storms can be frightening.
The wind whistles against the eaves, and the shutters rattle. We wonder if the roof will be in one piece when the sun returns.
We get the same feeling when people treat us harshly. We hunker down against the onslaught and wonder if we’ll be alright in the morning.
Or when our finances fail. The market tumbles, our real estate holdings crash, and our bank account is emptier than a dry lake bed.
Jesus reaches to us with comfort in his hands.
John 14:27 says:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Note what this verse doesn’t say.
Jesus doesn’t promise he’ll remove your abuser. He’s not there to lift the stock market, round out your real estate holdings, or plump up your bank account.
What he offers is the peace that says he is in control. He will guide you through it, stand by your side, and ensure that you come out the other side.
You are never left alone when you trust in God to walk at your side.
So, the next time you’re bullied, find a way to do something nice in return. It’s the best way to turn the tables.
Get financial advice on your financial investments. Do a risk assessment. You must be comfortable with your choices. For some people, the best call is to only invest what you can afford to lose.
If you’re overwhelmed with despair, it may be time to step away. Rest for a while in Jesus. He will be your strength when you are ready to face life again.
Jesus is your shelter, and you will find safety in him.
