Cheer up?
You say, “Did I read that title right? How can I cheer up? Doesn’t God know the terrible things that have happened to me?”
Chuck away your pouty face. Kick out your need for a pat on the back. Come out from under your rock of isolation and self-pity.
Over half a billion people had a worse year than you in 2020.
You read that right. Half. A. Billion.
You do remember the corona virus, don’t you? Covid-19. It spread across the world. Yet, you’re reading this. You are still alive. Your lungs work. You still have food to eat.
Yes, you’ve struggled. You were quarantined with everyone else. In the bigger scheme, that was a glitch in billions of people’s lives.
How many people had it worse than you? Lost their jobs. Homes foreclosed. Family disruption from being confined with volatile people. Depression. Perhaps even suicide …
God wants you to cheer up. He’s your rescuer and your salvation. He wants to make life better for you.
John 16:33 says:
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Here’s God’s message to you: Jesus had it worse that we might have it better. He was mocked that we might have strength. He was beaten so that we might know healing. He was crucified (the most excruciating and drawn-out death possible) that we might have new life in him.
So, are you ready? Cheer up. Put on a smile. Focus on the good parts of your life and let the rest slough off like water from a duck’s back.
Today is your moment of victory. Shout a praise unto the Lord your God.
