God’s Call to Better Things

English Audio Version

It’s time for a moment of reflection.

Are you where you want to be in life? Are you happy with your spouse, your job, your children?

Are you educationally fulfilled? Did you achieve that master’s degree like you planned?

Or did something get in the way? Were you stymied by circumstances that left you struggling to comprehend where you got off track?

God says it’s time to reevaluate your life’s goals so that you can begin to move forward.

Proverbs 21:5 says:

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”

This is like the fable of the tortoise and the hare. The tortoise has a destination in mind, and he places one foot in front of the other, certain his goal is in his reach.

The hare, on the other hand, is fast . . . and impulsive. What comes to him easily is good. If he must apply himself, well, from the story, we know how his interest wanes.

You can still reach your goals. They are not dead, just napping. Here are three things you can do to get back on track:

1. Make a list of what you wanted to achieve before life shifted you to where you’re at now.

2. Be realistic. Mark off what’s impossible. At 50, becoming an Olympic medalist may be beyond your reach, but you can still learn a sport you can enjoy.

3. Make a five-year plan. Focus on the first six months.

What about the rest, you ask? Shouldn’t I worry about that? Nope. Just the first six months. Put the rest of the plan aside. It’ll still be there six months from now.

As our verse in Proverbs says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance.”

One step at a time. No rushing. Do the first things first and let the rest fall in line when you’re ready.

You’ll get there. You’ll see. God will be your strength in your journey to better things.

When we are steady in Christ, our future is a wide-open book.
