Mucky boots are part of being a Christian.
It’s a human thing. Gunk will be everywhere we walk, and as followers of Christ, our duty is to ensure it’s regularly washed away.
We must be “washed white as snow” when we choose to walk with Jesus.
Our “washing” comes by the blood shed on the cross and is symbolized by the water baptism. We go under as the old man (mucky boots) and come up new (white as snow).
That should be exciting.
Here’s how Romans 5:5 renders the scene:
“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Let’s reword this verse like this:
“And hope lets us stand proud, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Mucky boots gone! The gunk of the world down the drain! We’ve gone through the power wash, the deep-clean cycle, and we’re coming up smelling like roses for the Lord.
That’s a clean we want to share with the world. The reason we can hope in God? As the verse says, “the Holy Spirit … has been given to us.”
Whoop, whoop! Shout with joy! Our time to rejoice in Christ has come!
Today’s our day to have a good reason to hope in God.
