Released from Despair

English Audio Version

People can pick.

They are like woodpeckers outside our window boring into a tree, pick, pick, pick, pick.

Our thoughts ring with the oppression as they come against us, accusing us of things we didn’t do, and holding us to a benchmark not even they can reach.

It’s like the song Charlie Brown by The Coasters.

“Why’s everybody always pickin’ on me?”

We feel like a clown, always at the bottom of the pile, and never able to break free of people’s opinions of us.

Psalm 57:3 says we have a rescue on its way.

“He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah. God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!”

The word Selah is important in this verse, because it adds a tone to the sentences before and after that we must pay attention to.

Selah is to lift up, to exalt. It also means to continue forever.

Not only is the Lord on the way with help for our situation, he will lift us up and exalt us on high. He is our champion forever, and we will never again be slandered or subject to reproach.

It’s time to get our excited boots on. We are released from despair. The world has no power over a child of the King.

Today is our moment of victory. Let’s cheer for our Jesus, our rescue and salvation.
