There is no afterlife.
Have you heard that one before? Lots of people think it.
Martin Hughes, writing on Breaker Barrier, his blog, says he wishes there was a heaven after death.
The Bible says his wish has been granted.
Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 15:51-54.
Verse 51 tells us the afterlife is nothing like our life on earth. We will be changed into a new creature.
“Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.”
Verse 52 assures us we will be imperishable. We will live on and on in our new and perfect form.
“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.”
Verse 53 says the event of death is simply the start of our transition to our journey to forever.
“For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.”
Verse 54 assures us death isn’t the end. It’s only the beginning.
“When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’ ”
So, come on, Martin Hughes, join in the throng that will soon be rejoicing before the King. We will lift our hands and shout. We hope to see you there.
Our journey to forever is already mapped out in God’s atlas. We call it the Bible, and our path is plain to see.
There are no mysteries when we trust in the Word of God.
