It’s a sound we dread. We sit or bend over, and the rending of fabric catches our ears.
Our clothing is damaged. We immediately search for a mirror, inspecting our garments to find the tear. Is it visible to others? Can they tell?
Next comes the repairs. Needle and thread? If it’s available. However, a stapler, safety pin, or jacket might have to do. Anything, as long as we can make it through the day.
Humanity was rent in the Garden of Eden. Irreparably. We were sundered from the eternal presence of God by the wiles of the devil foisted on the trusting nature of God’s creation.
Christ is our solution. Ezekiel 34:16 gives the words of God as he speaks to his people:
“I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with Judgment.”
This promise comes to us today through the person of Jesus of Nazareth. He is the thread that repairs the damage done in the Garden. He weaves us together into cloth stronger than it was before. He is our repair, our solution, and our everlasting hope of life renewed.
Further in the chapter, Ezekiel 34:22 sums up the powerful promise of God:
“Therefore I will save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between [them].”
We no longer need to feel lost. God’s promise is already here. Christ is the thread of our renewal, and when we allow him into our hearts, he will stitch us into perfection, totally flawless in his name.
When our life falls apart, Jesus is ready to put us back together.
