The Future of Us

Tomorrow’s a new day.

The sun will rise in the morning, and we’ll enjoy a new opportunity for success.

It’s like turning over a new leaf. We re-envision our goals and remodel our life.

In computer terms, we reboot our hard drive.

It’s our future we’re talking about. We take it in hand and make of it what we will. It’s up to us to become what we want to be.

Then baby number 1 gets in the way of our goals, and off course we go. Our goals are skewered by baby number 2, and if there’s a third, that’s all she wrote.

Our future just skittered out of our control.

But consider. Is that a bad thing? Are children following in our footsteps a distraction or a reward?

Psalm 128:3 tells us our children are a bountiful addition to what we already possess.

“… Your children will be like olive shoots around your table.”

Psalm 127:3-5 says our children are an asset and a protection in every situation.

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”

Psalm 107:41 assures us our children are a gift from God.

“He raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks.”

Proverbs 17:6 describes our children as a crown and a glory.

“Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.”

Maybe children are not part of your life, and you can pursue the dreams of your youth. If you do have children, you are doubly blessed.

Our children become the future of us, and we find our treasure in them.

God ensures our future through those who follow in our footsteps.
