Life’s Biggest Step

America landed its first man on the moon in 1969 with the famous phrase, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

However, that first step was not as easy as stepping out the front door to retrieve the morning paper. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first rode atop a massive Saturn V rocket from the safety of the earth into the vacuum of space, risking their very lives on that barely-contained explosion, to be able to set foot on the moon.

These men took a great risk to win great rewards.

God gives us an equal opportunity for incredible success. He doesn’t need us to walk on the moon. He simply needs us to take life’s biggest step, one he designed into his plan from the very beginning.

In Genesis 2:18 God declared that Adam could not function to his greatest potential if he remained alone. God’s solution was to make him a “help meet” to accompany him through life’s journey.

This wasn’t to be a “shack-up” situation, where lust ruled the day. This partnership was to be a permanent union, bonding Adam and Eve until the end of their days.

This was to be a marriage of the most enduring kind.

In Verses 23-24 we read Adam’s words, ones that have been spoken at wedding ceremony after wedding ceremony over the centuries. We know them by heart.

“This is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.”

Eve was not a one-night stand. She was an integral part of Adam’s existence. Whether for good or bad, through sickness or health, and until death came their way, they were entwined together.

They had become one flesh.

How had Armstrong said it? That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.

For womankind, too.

Once we take life’s biggest step, we will enrich ourselves with the rewards of our marital union every day.

Excerpt of the Day

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
