Every generation learns anew.
Everything: manners; self-control; monetary principles.
We build on the knowledge of our forebears, but we must learn how to operate within the confines of our society just like our parents did.
We can help our children shortcut many of the problems of being the upcoming generation.
Ephesians 6:4 reveals the way:
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Do not provoke… means to be kind, to be patient, and to understand what it means to be young. Kids don’t have it all figured out, and they will make mistakes. Help them through without yelling.
Bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord… means we need to live our lives by the Lord’s principles. That’s how our children learn about God, by seeing him through our behaviors.
Our children learn what we teach them. Everything. Let’s teach them of God, so that they will know the Lord in the fullness of who he is.
Love is learned by example, and our finest example is Christ.
