Axiom Number One

We’ve all heard the phrase that some things are as certain as death and taxes. One is sure to come, and the other arrives every April 15th.

What about the sun? It rises in the east, and following the established laws of nature, it will set in the west. Walk the shores of the ocean and watch the tide come in. Without fail, the rising waters will soon retreat to the depths of the sea once again.

Nature’s laws are immutable. They cannot be changed by man, for the establishment of all the earth and the rules therein are controlled by the Lord God Almighty. In his wisdom, he directs the clouds to bring forth rain, the moon to follow the sun, and the earth to turn on its axis throughout the eons of existence.

James 1:17 tells us that God never changes, and all that is good and perfect comes from him, alone. God’s rules are trustworthy, for they can never fail.

Psalm 18:30 states that all his promises prove true. If God says it, we can take it to the bank, for it will come to pass.

Isaiah 40:8 says that the word of our God stands forever. What the Almighty speaks cannot be chiseled from stone or wiped from a computer chip by the hand of man.

So, let’s turn that to ourselves as we look at God’s law of sowing and reaping in James 3:18.

“The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them who make peace.”

What does this mean to us? James is telling us that if we wish to wear the banner of righteousness before the Lord, we must first make peace with those around us. Discord will eat away our righteousness until our Christ-given purity will hang from us as dirty rags.

James has given us Axiom Number One: What we put in determines what we get out. It is as certain as death and taxes.

When we put God first in our lives, he will reward us with his love and his blessings. He has said so, and we can take that to the bank.

Excerpt of the Day

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
