Jesus, the Living Water

We must allow the Spirit of God to bless us.

Isaiah 44:3-4 in the NIV tells us:

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;

I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.

They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.

Let’s break this down.

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;

God knows we have material needs. Our roof needs replaced, our car needs gas, our children need shoes, and we must fund our retirement so that we can continue to exist even when we can no longer earn a living. God is not blind to what it means to be human, and he will provide for us.

I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.

God also sees our spiritual needs. We need communication, continuity, and spiritual interaction with him. We find difficulty in walking alone. Friends, spouses, children, and grandchildren. When they also find spiritual fulfillment in the Lord, we can rest assured that they are on the path to security and rest in him.

They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.

This is the final piece in the puzzle of life. Not only does God meet our physical needs—that new roof, gas for our car, clothing, and the means to one day provide for ourselves in retirement—he provides people to walk this Christian life with us. We have companions to support us, rescue us when we stumble, and learn from us so that they can find their fulfillment in him.

When we feel lost and struggle to get through each day, God has his hand of blessing already open to us. We must reach out, take his hand, and let him pour out on us.

Our blessing is ready for us. Let’s let God shower us today.
