The Truth in Christmas

What does Christmas mean to you?

Chestnuts roasting over an open fire.

A decorated tree filled with lights and ornaments.

Gifts for everyone. Family around the fire. Reading “The Night Before Christmas” on Christmas Eve.

What does Christmas mean to you? Maybe you lean toward a Christmas cantata or singing carols in the snow … or eggnog with friends and Christmas morning spent opening presents.

Let’s look at the truth the shepherds found in Christmas two thousand years ago.

“The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.” – Luke 2:20

The truth in this verse that I want to highlight is found in the final six words: “Just as they had been told.”

The truth in Christmas. The shepherds discovered it.

Let me share it with you.

The Bible gives us thousands of years of history. In the massive tome, the ending far outshines all that comes before, for in the ending, we learn the truth of God’s love for us through the message of salvation brought to humanity by Jesus, called the Christ, who was and is the Son of God incarnate.

The shepherds saw all this in the child born into that manger. Their eyes were opened to the truth of Christ that long ago Christmas night.

So, what does Christmas mean to you? Have your eyes been opened to the truth of the Word?

Jesus is the Christ, and in him, we find salvation, for he is the only one who can forgive us of our sins.
