During the waning days of fall, it is easy to find ourselves languid and purposeless. The pleasures of summer are long gone, and winter will soon blanket the land. However, God wishes us to be on the move. To keep us busy for him, he stirs us up with the winds of his Spirit. He comes to us as a torrent in the stillness of the night, a BRISK summons that his will is yet to be completed.
Let’s look at our BRISK God:
B – He is the trumpet that BLOWS, bringing the mighty winds of change.
Zechariah 9:14 reveals how God loves his children, for he BLOWS a mighty trumpet, riding in on the winds of the storm, to redeem his own.
R – He ROUTS those that would come against us, sending them to their doom.
Psalm 144:6 paints an enduring image of the Father as he sends forth lightning to scatter our enemies; his arrows fly from his bow to ROUT those who are against us.
I – He IS the great King that destroys all who stand before him.
Isaiah 66:15 reassures us that no matter how powerful our detractors appear, God IS the Lord of Hosts who holds the fire of his anger in his hand, and he rebukes those who deny his power.
S – He SENDS us his deliverance when we most need it.
Matthew 24:31 lets us know that even when we are far from God, he still knows where to find us. When the trumpet sounds, he SENDS his call, and the elect will be gathered from the reaches of the four winds.
K – His KINGSHIP is his gift unto us.
Revelation 1:6 speaks to the enduring Christian in us all. Even though the verse pertains to a greeting from Paul to the Seven Churches, he also speaks to us today. God makes us into a kingdom, and we have a KINGSHIP in his glory, priests forever to God and the Father.
When we feel winter’s chill piercing our bones, we can know that God’s love is BRISK, and his whirlwind of revival will spark warmth in our souls.
