Raising Our Window Shade

Who has never flown on a commercial jet?

Anyone? Hands up if so. Where are our aircraft neophytes out there?

Here’s the thing about taking an airliner across the country or across the world.

You get to soar higher than the birds. You get to crest the top of the world. The climbers ascending Mt. Everest must look up to see you!

Here’s the other thing.

Every seat has a view from a window, but if your window shade is closed, you can’t see any of it. You might as well be on a bus … wearing sleep blinders … riding two feet above the blacktop.

How boring is that?

The mountains are beautiful from above. The tops of the clouds … rivers winding across the landscape … the cities lighted at night. However, we must raise the window shade to see the magnificence created by the hand of God.

Hebrews 11:3 says finding faith in God is the same.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”

God is there. We can have confidence in him. We must, however, open our faith blinds to see the magnificent life God has established for us.

It’s not what’s visible that makes our Christian walk magnificent. It’s our invisible God who brings all things together for our good through Christ our Lord.
