Tulips and Ice

Blogger P.J. Aubrey relates a tidbit of her mother’s memory of winters in Utah.

Winters in Utah can be especially brutal, as atmospheric inversion can erase the sun for weeks, and the air quality become untenable.

One year, after an especially trying winter season, the sound of dripping water made all the difference. Her mother heard the plop, plop of warming temperatures and stepped outside to see an icicle dripping water from the roof. She looked down, and just where each drop landed, a tulip was emerging from the soil.

Here's Aubrey’s takeaway from her mother’s story: Ice, one of the most damaging of winter’s effects and a plant’s worse nightmare was providing what the flower needed most, fresh, pure water.

What’s wrong in your life? How bad have things gotten that you think you can’t see the end?

Psalm 117 says:

“Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!”

When you let your worst nightmare begin to water your dreams, beautiful things will grow around you. It starts with warming words of praise as we lift our voices before the Lord.
