Overflowing With Love

Yellowstone. Old Faithful. Water spewing into the sky.

Visit one day, and the sight of Old Faithful’s magnificent geyser will take your breath away.

Here’s the thing: You can’t just walk up any old time and expect Old Faithful to spout its magnificence just because you’re there.

There are times when Old Faithful is ominously quiet. Nothing shoots out. It’s just a place out in the middle of nowhere, and why would we want to visit, anyway?

We might even say to our companion, “Hey, nothing good here. Let’s go for some lunch.”

If we did, we’d miss the good stuff.

We know that Old Faithful must recharge, to build up fresh levels of steam in its underground rock chambers. When it’s fully energized, it will put on a display that we’re unlikely to ever forget.

So, why as Christian are we expected to be “always on,” to never need a little “us time,” to be perfect in love continually?

Ephesians 4:23 says:

“Be renewed in the spirit of your minds.”

Merriam-Webster gives us this definition of renewed:

“restore to freshness; replace, replenish”

Just like Old Faithful. Sometimes people need to give us some space, and we need to give others some, also. We need time for God to recharge us. Saturday off. A little break from “doing good” for everyone who asks.

We’ll be back, recharged, amazing to everyone who sees us in action. We’re just building up fresh levels of God ready to spew our praises skyward in worship of our Lord.

God renews his faithful when we place our hope in him.
