Who can we turn to for the truth?
You know what I mean, for achieving a better life . . . for getting direction on what to do tomorrow and the day after if we want to improve our circumstances.
Years ago, Dale Carnegie would have topped our list. His books were considered the top echelon of wisdom for helping us to get ahead in the word.
Now we might turn to Paulo Chelho, author of The Alchemist, a book about a shepherd boy who learns how to follow his dreams.
Or we might read Stephen R. Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and expect to come out transformed on the other side.
Then there’s Eckhart Tolle with The Power of Now and Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
We might find Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill more appealing. Positive energy is all we need to earn our millions.
These all have their strong points, but without faith in God, they will all let us down. Let’s look at Paul’s words in Romans 10:17:
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
The rock of who we are must be Christ. Our faith in his truth is our sure path to success in him. We learn about our Lord through the Word of God.
Here it is in a nutshell:
- Read the Bible to build your faith.
- Read the Bible when you are depressed.
- Read the Bible during your times of despair.
Choose the psalms, promise verses, or stories of the saints of old, but read it every day. The Word will build your faith until nothing that comes against you can tear you down.
Step into the power of Jesus by stepping into the Word.
