The story of Jericho is a popular one in Biblical lore.
Hollywood has glamorized the tale in film, with the Israelites marching around the city, and on the final day, the walls crashing to the ground.
Did they just crumble, did God bring an earthquake, or did a tornado batter the walls into dust? Perhaps we will never know, but we do know the heroine of the day.
Rahab, a woman with a dubious past.
We have 5 Causes to Celebrate Rahab.
First, Rahab took a risk and sheltered the men of God.
Joshua 2:1 tells us:
“And Joshua the son of Nun sent two men secretly from Shittim as spies, saying, ‘Go, view the land, especially Jericho.’ And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lodged there.”
Second, Rahab was rewarded along with her family for placing her faith in God.
Joshua 6:25 relates:
“But Rahab the prostitute and her father's household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved alive. And she has lived in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.”
Third, Rahab’s example encourages us to be open to the move of God in our lives.
Hebrews 11:31 reminds us:
“By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.”
Fourth, Rahab links the Old Testament with the New in the lineage of Jesus.
Matthew 1:5 lists for us:
“And Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse.”
Fifth, Rahab lived out her faith when she performed the Lord’s duty.
James 2:25 sets our standard:
“And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?”
Our past doesn’t matter. We must focus on where God wants to take us. Let’s take a risk for God. Who knows the path he wants to lead us down?
We become a pivot pin in God’s plan when we let him use us as he will.
