4 Things About Faith

English Audio Version

We’re familiar with the word faith.

We use it all the time.

“I don’t have any faith in that bicycle. The tires won’t hold air.”

“Have faith in me. Have I ever let you down?”

Yet what does faith really mean?

Merriam-Webster tells us the first meaning of faith is an allegiance to a duty or a person.

In other words, loyalty.

Our second definition in Merriam-Webster focuses on applying our loyalty to God.

Now let’s look at Hebrews 11:1, a familiar verse to many of us.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

This verse isn’t long, but it’s packed with meaning. Let’s look at four things we can take from this verse.

Our 1st Thing About Faith:

Assurance.

Our faith is a done deal. We don’t have to worry about whether it will happen. Merriam-Webster says we are certain in our mind.

Our 2nd Thing About Faith:

Things hoped for.

God wants us to aspire to more than we are, more than we have. It’s in our nature to desire to move forward in life.

Our 3rd Thing About Faith:

Conviction.

Our conviction comes about by belief. We choose one thing over another, to see something in doubt or to accept it as truth. It’s our choice.

Our 4th Thing About Faith:

Things not seen.

That’s the thing about faith. It’s not visible. The results, however, are as solid as the chair in which we sit. Our conviction makes it real.

Let’s proclaim our allegiance to God. Let’s establish our loyalty to God as our brand. Let’s practice our assurance in his promises. Let’s hold our conviction to his Word in our hearts.

God is faithful to us, and his promises will come to pass.
