Taking Down Your Giants

English Audio Version

Hearts falter when giants come calling.

It happens to everyone. The singer on stage the first time. The soldier facing overwhelming odds. The entrepreneur when his business model is falling apart around him.

Let’s look at the biggest giant of all, the monster of antiquity, the story of taking down a giant of an opponent in the ancient book of Samuel.

The Philistines were a rough-and-tumble people. They crushed their opponents and left them quivering in the dust.

They wanted the kingdom of Israel for a tasty snack. Goliath was their champion, and Israel quivered in their socks, unable to command anyone who would meet the challenge.

Then came David, a boy, a youth with more faith in God than fear of the enemy.

1 Samuel 17:48-49 reveals the outcome of the day:

“When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.”

Here’s our core takeaway from this passage. When we base our authority in the rules of the Kingdom, we can run toward the battle.

We chase down the evil one, we tackle our fears, and we pummel what frightens us until it lies face to the ground.

YOU ARE NOT A QUITTER. You are God’s champion, filled with his supernatural power, and the victory you claim is the success God will give you.

You will take down every giant when you have Jesus at your side.
