Christmas cards are wonderful sources of inspiration. We feel the warmth and reassurance of familial love with each one we read.
Open that glitter-painted red-and-green card, and the words inside might sound something like this:
“May you feel God’s presence in the candles, that softly spread their glow at Christmas, and may you experience the wonder of His abiding love, as He guides you, through each day of the coming year. May God’s Blessings be with you. At Christmas and New Year!”
Here’s how Christian recording artist Amy Grant says it:
“Faith is salted and peppered through everything at Christmas. And I love at least one night by the Christmas tree to sing and feel the quiet holiness of that time that’s set apart to celebrate love, friendship, and God’s gift of the Christ child.”
Corrie Ten Boom, Holocaust survivor, tells us:
“Who can add to Christmas? The perfect motive is that God so loved the world. The perfect gift is that He gave His only Son. The only requirement is to believe in Him. The reward of faith is that you shall have everlasting life.”
John 1:4-5 says:
“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Lucinda Franks is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. Her turn of words gives us a picture of that night so long ago that crystalizes the beauty of God-come-to-earth in the embodiment of Jesus.
“Christmas in Bethlehem. The ancient dream: a cold, clear night made brilliant by a glorious star, the smell of incense, shepherds and wise men falling to their knees in adoration of the sweet baby, the incarnation of perfect love.”
The incarnation of perfect love. That’s Jesus. That’s the Reason for the Season. That’s Christmastime.
Let’s make Christmas last all year long. It’s the love of the season that carries us through, and it’s Jesus who revealed how to truly love one another.
We are the love of Christ when we offer hope to the world around us.
