Bad things happen to good people.
Every day. And that’s just the big things, the ones that threaten our safety and security. Life and limb. Our most precious relationships.
Little things are constantly under our nails, worrying away at us, making us doubt that the Father truly cares about us.
Our computer goes on the blink with our work half completed. The fridge, does it have to quit just before the party? And who needs a flat tire on the way to church?
It’s easy to think that God’s forgotten all about us.
God’s Word tosses that idea right out the window. Our fear is banished with it. We have a place of safety, and it’s ready and waiting on us.
Mark 4:40 reminds us that our faith displaces our fear.
“He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?’ ”
Luke 12:32 is our promise that God’s kingdom is already ours.
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
Isaiah 41:13 says God will help us through our troubled times.
“For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.’ ”
Proverbs 1:33 offers safety from the raucous noise that surrounds us.
“But whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.”
Matthew 10:28 tells us our souls are the important thing, and we should brush off the rest.
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Christians will face trouble. God will carry us to the other side. We can be reassured when we trust in him.
Our fear is banished when Jesus dwells in us.
