6 Surprises When You Are Content

English Audio Version

Are you unhappy with your lot in life?

The world says to get up and change things. It’s up to you. Make your fortune. It won’t come to you from a cornucopia in the sky.

They’re right, too. You can’t hold out your hand, cry, “Me, too, please,” without breaking a sweat to earn your step up in life.

Yet, discontent can keep you from enjoying what you have already achieved. In your endeavors to improve your lot in life, rejoice when you can.

Here are 6 surprises you receive when you take time to relish the good parts of your life.

Proverbs 17:22 says you will receive a jolt of happiness.

“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

Hebrews 13:5 tells you that you will learn to trust in the Father.

“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ ”

Proverbs 15:15 assures you that you will enjoy good things.

“All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.”

Proverbs 14:30 promises that contentment will enhance your life.

“A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.”

1 Timothy 6:6 guarantees you have the important thing.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Proverbs 23:17-18 is God’s declaration that you will receive everything you desire from him.

“Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”

There’s a classic hymn that tells you to count your blessings, to name them one by one. What it’s saying is to look around, see the good things you’ve already received from God, and know that he loves you.

You are not forgotten. God loves you just as you are, and he wants you to feel his arms around you, whatever your lot in life.

God is your rock. In him your future is secure.
