Building Our Strength

English Audio Version

Weight lifting is the way to go. It builds our bodies, making us stronger than before.

Not everyone wants that look. For those, swimming is the thing. The water builds long muscles, and we keep our slim shape.

What about gymnastics? We need upper body strength if we’re to be successful.

A NASCAR driver needs endurance.

A long-distance runner requires stamina.

Golfers? A steady hand and a good eye make all the difference.

What does God require for us to build our spiritual strength in him?

Zechariah 4:6 reveals our strength-building schedule:

“Then he said to me, ‘This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.’ ”

God doesn’t need our strong arms, upper body strength, or a good eye. All those are good, but they are attributes that help us in the physical world. Our spiritual strength comes from immersing ourselves in the Spirt of God, in Bible study, and in time in prayer.

When we face trouble, our first step must be to turn to God, pull out the Word, and spend quality time with our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our spiritual endurance and stamina will come when we arise from our hour of prayer. Our steady hand and good eye will result from our focus on God. We’ll find our increased strength in our commitment to the commandment of Jesus to love others as ourselves and seek wholly after him.

Jesus builds us up, and when we depend on Christ, the world can never tear us down.
