Our Eternal Truth

English Audio Version

When a message carries importance, we can say it’s written in stone.

No one has the right to alter it. The result is decided, and nothing will make us change our mind.

Stone seems to convey permanence. It lasts a long time, and it’s difficult to deface or destroy.

The truth is, sometimes even stone can fail us.

An earthquake. That’ll do it. The earth twists, and our stone underpinnings are shaken to the core.

Or heat. Throw a rock into a fire, and we’re likely to crack it down the middle. Then there’s wind and water. Both can wear away stone until nothing’s left.

Our relationships can face a similar challenge. Jeremiah 12:6 tells us to be careful where we place our trust.

“For even your brothers and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; they are in full cry after you; do not believe them, though they speak friendly words to you.”

This is the same message our Lord gave us in Matthew 13:57, Luke 4:24, and John 4:44. A prophet is filled with honor except in his own house and in his own country.

The distrust of those who know us best can be the earthquake, the heat, the wind, and the water that wear away the eternal truth of our Lord. We maintain the promise of our salvation by polishing our stone through prayer and time spent in the Word of God.

Christ’s love is the most important message man has received. We must keep his eternal truth etched on the core of who we are.
