Our Test of Faith

Courage is knowing what not to fear. That’s from Plato.

How do we find courage when we are blindsided by life?

It’s easy to stand and testify to the goodness of the Lord when we sense God on our side.

Then we get the doctor’s report. We read it and weep.

Our daughter is sucked into a moral dilemma. We can’t understand where we failed.

Our investments have turned from gold into lead. We’re financially crushed.

Faith is simple when things are going as they should. In times of stress, it’s more difficult.

1 Peter 2:9-11 says to stand on the provenance of our heritage in Christ our King.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.”

James 1:2-4 tells us we will become stronger in Christ through conquering the disasters that come our way.

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

Romans 1:17 assures us that it’s our confidence in the Lord, not in our health or investments, that brings us righteousness before God.

“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’ ”

Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us that whatever comes our way, God will never leave our side. He’s there with us through everything we face.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Easy faith doesn’t produce courageous Christians. When we’re brave of heart and have nerves of steel, we’ll find our faith in Christ is all we need.
