It’s easy to have faith in what we have locked up tight.
It’s more difficult to place our confidence is things over which we have no control: the other driver; that dog not on a leash; someone else’s employer; our teenage son out with his friends.
Then there’s God, over whom we have absolutely no control.
The Word gives us a good lesson for finding confidence in Christ and in God, for when we open our hand in faith, our Lord reaches unto us, and he guides us faithfully through every storm.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8 reveals the core of our Christian walk:
“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
James 5:16 says our faith is a cooperative effort:
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
1 Corinthians 2:13 implores us to trust in the Spirit:
“And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.”
John 1:1 reminds us of our key player:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Titus 1:2 refreshes our faith with a promise like none other:
“In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began.”
We may not always have control, but we know the Father who does. He’s the core of our cooperative walk in the Spirit. Through him, we become a key player for Christ, and we live out a faithful promise like no other.
When we open our hand in faith, we’ll find God in our palm, offering us the assurance of his eternal presence.
