Orchestrated by God

Our lives at times seem chaotic and frightful. Things rarely go according to plan, and when they do, we’d better expect the edge of the cliff to appear under our feet at any moment. We’re as likely to tumble right over as make it to the other side.

What about when death stalks our door? Is God in control then?

The book of Esther tells of a king’s ill-conceived decree to destroy an entire nation. The plot was hatched by an underling named Haman. Esther is forced to plead with the king for her people’s lives.

Esther 7:4 reveals her desperation:

“For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to perish…”

There was no future for Esther or for her people under the king’s decree. They were at the precipice, and the cliff face was sheer, with no handholds on the way down. In only moments, they would tumble over, pushed by Haman’s madness into the chasm of despair and destruction.

Even so, our God is good. He orchestrated redemption for his people. He had a plan already in place. Even in the worst of times, we can trust our Father to look out for us. Is our bank account depleted? God has all the funds we need. Sickness? By his stripes we are healed. Loneliness? He is a friend and brother. There is no good thing the Father cannot provide.

If the king had rejected Esther’s plea, she could have been summarily killed for her brazen forwardness. The Word tells us God worked through Esther to bring salvation to his people.

Esther 7:10 describes the end Haman brought upon himself:

“So they hanged Haman on the gallows…”

God had a plan. He wrote the entire symphony. He controlled the melody, the choice of instruments, even when each would come into play. There was no doubt of the final bars in the song. It was orchestrated by God, fully planned, and ordered to perfection.

When we trust in God and follow his directives, we have the assurance that he is in control, and we have nothing to fear. He is our shield and protection, a mighty fortress for our soul.

Why worry, when we can live assured we are safe in the arms of our heavenly Father.

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
