The Sword of the Almighty God

Weapons are frightening. They are meant to be. When they are imposing enough, they become a deterrent. We don’t want them wielded against us.

Modern weapons are certainly that. In the Gulf War in the early 1990s, Iraq overran tiny Kuwait. They swept in like a sandstorm, obliterating the opposition. Kuwait was devastated.

In swept the Allied Coalition led by a U.S air offensive. The strike was so sudden and powerful that the Iraqi soldiers dropped their weapons and ran.

The firepower raised against the Iraqi soldiers was so frightening that their resolve to continue the fighting melted away. The sandstorm of destruction Iraq had swept across Kuwait evaporated against the searing blast of superior forces.

God is that superior force. His weapons overshadow all others. He lifts his hand, thrusts his sword high, and the enemy drops his weapons and runs.

Ezekiel 32:10 tells us:

“Yes, I will make many people amazed at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for you, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall.”

This verse is God’s proclamation that the world is helpless before him. When we understand this, and accept that we are part of God’s coalition, our fear will fade away. We can stand tall before our enemy because God holds the sword that leads us forth.

What made the difference in the Gulf War? Stealth bombers, cruise missiles, “smart” bombs with laser-guidance systems, and infrared night-bombing capabilities. There was no place for the enemy to hide.

What makes the difference in God’s war? The Word of God, the Holy Spirit, prayer warriors, dedicated Christians, and the gleaming sword of the Almighty God lifted high as his standard before all mankind.

When we follow closely after God, we are part of his coalition, and the evil one will drop his weapons and run. Why? God’s power is so great, he can wipe Satan out, and Satan won’t even know he’s coming.

If we want to scare the devil, we do it with the sword of God. It will make the devil turn tail and run every time.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
