Invisible things are hard to find.
That’s sounds silly, but think of things that are transparent. Glass, for one. Have we ever walked into a glass door, not expecting it to be there, and smashed into it unexpectedly, all because we couldn’t see it? In that moment it was invisible. We couldn’t see it, until it found us.
We had to run into it to understand it was there.
John 5:37 tells us we will never find physical proof of God.
“You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.”
Understand, this is Jesus talking. He’s telling the people that God is as good as lost to them if they choose not to believe, because they are never going to pick up a rock and find Made by God on the underside.
How do we find our lost God? Look to the previous verse, John 5:36.
“The…works that I do bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me.”
Again, these are the words of Jesus. He’s telling us that we can find the results of God’s handiwork all around us. We can see the proof of his existence in the healing and miracles, the lives changed, and the mighty works he does.
We will never find God in our scientific laboratories, through our most powerful telescopes, or inside the lens of a microscope. Rather, we find him in the miracles of faith, and in the hearts of those who choose to trust in his name.
That glass door is there, whether we choose to see it or not. Our view through it is so perfect, that until we stumble into it, we assume it’s not there at all.
Our broken nose tells us otherwise.
God is there, unseen. He’s not lost. If we doubt his presence, the real issue is that we haven’t bumped into him, yet. When we do, we’ll know he’s real.
He’ll make sure of that.
The reality of God is found in the love, the good deeds, and the sacrifice we show to others.
