Extraterrestrial intelligence. E.T. Is our alien counterpart out there or not?
Visit Roswell, New Mexico, and you may start to believe. Then, you may find it all a joke, too. How about the movie Contact, with Jodie Foster? According to that scenario, anyone “out there” will be mysterious, unknowable, and only willing to make “contact” in an unusual, unprovable way.
And then we have the movie E.T. Here we learn that aliens have been around for years, and while they might not look like us, they carry the same emotions, drives, and family interactions that humans deal with every day.
So, is E.T. real? Oh, not in the hokey Roswell way, but is there really intelligence life out there beyond the boundaries of our planetary atmosphere? Is the all-powerful alien, filled with emotions and duties, fact or fiction?
The Bible says:
John 14:28:
“You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.”
Jesus was our number one E.T., and he says his Father is greater than he is. Zowie! He must be some powerful creature!
John 1:18:
“No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.”
This is the Contact version, mysterious and unprovable. We know he is there when he makes himself known.
Psalm 2:7:
“I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, ‘You are my Son; today I have begotten you.’ ”
It’s not like E.T. didn’t leave us clues. He’s been laying them out like breadcrumbs for millennia. All we need to do is pay attention.
John 20:17:
“Jesus said to her, Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”
For those of us familiar with the E.T. movie, the alien child had called home, and the mothership was on the way to retrieve him. He had only a short time to wait, and he would be beamed aboard to once more commune with his Father in heaven.
Today’s article has used several movie/science fiction terms to describe the life of Jesus, but the truth is, his reality is alien to us, unless revealed by God the Father for our understanding. Jesus was our contact with the unknown, bringing the truth of our unknowable God to humanity. Read it here:
John 17:26:
“I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
The next time we watch an alien encounter movie, and we think how cool it would be, we need to remember one thing. That alien encounter has already happened. We call E.T. Jesus, and he intends to come one day and take us to his magnificent and unknowable home in the heavens.
Let’s make sure we’re ready to go when he does.
We can only know the true Jesus if we open our hearts and minds to the truth given to us by the Father.
