In Jilin, China, winter temperatures can easily drop below minus 25 Celsius. Yet, fishermen still ply their trade on a daily basis.
How? Drill a hole in one location, then move down 65 feet and drill another. Drop a net in the first hole and string it through the second. Then come back in two days and see what the net holds.
To the casual eye, the icy lake seems barren and dead. Yet, right below the surface, there is a feast just for the taking. All the fishermen have to do is reach down and grab hold of it.
When we feel the icy circumstances of life crowding in, it’s not time to give up. Rather, we need to drill through to the life God has for us.
Let’s look at seven examples of the life God has for us just on the other side:
Life Example #1 –
John 14:6 tells us he is the way, and the truth, and the life.
Life Example #2 –
1 Timothy 3:16 confirms Jesus was made flesh, proved by the Spirit, and seen by the angels.
Life Example #3 –
Ephesians 3:9 assures us he came to bring to light the mysteries of the ages.
Life Example #4 –
1 Corinthians 15:47 lets us know that while Adam was made of dust, Jesus came from heaven.
Life Example #5 –
John 15:15-16 instructs us that he chose us to bear fruit in his name.
Life Example #6 –
Luke 10:25-37 is our example on how to inherit eternal life.
Life Example #7 –
Jeremiah 29:11-13 encourages us that God knows the plans he has for us. They are plans for good, and if we seek after God, we will find him.
Those fish under that lake in China? They can only be caught if someone goes through the ice after them. The good things of God are the same. When we go after them, we will find what he has in store for us.
When the world seems most barren is when we should search for Jesus the hardest.
