What’s old has become new … isn’t that how it goes?
Sometimes, we need to look to the past for inspiration. We need to recognize what’s worked then and give it another try.
Old becomes new not because it’s never been tried but because we’ve forgotten how well it works.
Here’s a practical way to serve God even when you’re not a part of your church’s ministry team:
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did it for Me.”
That’s directly from Matthew 25:40, and it speaks worlds to us for the modern-day Christian.
- Bandaging a toddler’s knee.
- Letting an elderly person take your place at the head of the line.
- Pressing $5 into a homeless person’s hand.
- Paying for someone else's coffee.
- Donating groceries to a women’s shelter.
- Teaching a Sunday school class.
- Mowing the church lawn.
- Weeding the flowerbed of a neighbor with limited mobility.
Are you seeing it? All of these … ALL OF THEM … count as though we did them for our Lord.
Preaching might get the attention … singing a solo might bring praise … but doing for “the least of these” is the Lord’s command.
It’s not a new way to serve God, but it might be new for today. Let’s get with it, or as they say, let’s bust a move.
It’s what Jesus would do.
