To enjoy our best life, we need to make a plan.
Experts tell us to write it out: step one, step two, and step three.
They build on each other. The first step enables the second, and the second makes the third possible.
There’s no need (or point) in tackling step three if we don’t have step one and two in place.
So, what does the Word mean in John 4:35:
“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.”
Are we to jump on step three NOW? Is it bad advice to make a plan? What’s the deal, John?
Here’s the thing: John isn’t saying not to make a plan. In fact, he’s telling us the opposite.
MAKE A PLAN. PUT IT ON PAPER. START ON STEP ONE.
What John addresses is someone who never starts.
God doesn’t expect you to accept salvation in Christ this week and head off to the mission field next week.
He does expect you to make a plan.
Bible college, even if it’s part time.
Build a financial support base. That might mean visiting churches for monthly support.
Sell your house. Liquidate your possessions. Find out what schooling options are out there for your children.
Do step one, then move on to step two.
Your opportunity in God is NOW. Your plan starts today.
