December quickly rolls around on the calendar, and holiday lights begin to sparkle on the streets.
How early can the Season begin?
On October 14 of 2018, in Great Falls, Iowa, the grass was green, and flowers bloomed everywhere. It was fall, and the views were glorious. Even the trees in the yards had yet to turn from their summer green.
Then the mist started to fall, and soon porches and walks became slippery with slush. It wasn’t long before flakes of white began to tumble from the sky.
Within four hours, the green of summer and early fall had been transformed into a winter snow scene. There was no green to be found.
It was a reminder that the gift-giving season was on the way, though December was still two pages away on the kitchen calendar.
The shopping bug was released that October day, and the gift-giving season 2018 never slowed down.
Christ began a gift-giving season two millennia ago. John 4:10 reveals a scene of quiet exchange between the Master and a woman in need.
“Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, “Give me a drink,” you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.’ ”
That was the first moment when the mist began to fall. Shopping bags out! Best shoes on our feet! Checkbook in hand!
Wait!! We don’t need our checkbook! Jesus said, “If you knew the GIFT OF GOD!!”
Let’s get excited! Let’s get shopping! Let’s stock up on what God’s giving us for free, and that’s the LIVING WATER from Jesus our Master and King!
When we understand Jesus’ purpose on earth, we will want to share his Good News.
