Begin adding numbers together, and we can get impressive results. One added to another results in two. Add that to two more, and we get four. Do it again, and we have eight.
We’re doubling, a simple form of addition that can easily give us very large numbers. If we, however, want to think really big, we need to look at multiplication. We can get results that are astronomical (Literally!) as easily as putting one number together with another.
There are times astronomical is the only result that will do. How many grains of sand are on the shore? We can’t number them, but we can count the grains in a cup, multiply, and extrapolate a pretty good guess for the total number on our planet. The stars, do we know the total? No. However, we can estimate the number seen in a certain section of the sky, multiply, and make a pretty good guess.
Ten added to ten is twenty. Multiply the numbers and we get a hundred. Add a zero to either ten, multiply, and we now have a thousand.
We need to multiply our love for Christ so that it reaches unto the entire world.
Acts 2:38 tells us:
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Repent. Be baptized. Receive. It’s the start of the multiplication process, one that will begin to spread the love of Christ unto the entire world. How do we know it works? Acts 17:26 tells us God made every nation from one man. Mark 16:16 promises that everyone who believes will be saved. 1 Corinthians 6:19 assures us we belong to God.
If God created every nation from one man, he can as easily multiply one Christian into an overwhelming force that will revitalize our world.
We see God’s desire to put his spiritual multiplication tables into action in Acts 22:16:
“And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.”
We may be only one, but in God’s army, we are an overwhelming force against the evil that surrounds us.
