Focused on God’s Unchanging Love

Look around your home.

What keepsakes do you keep around you?

That surfboard in the den. Granny’s handmade quilt on the bed. The turtle shell you found in the woods. The olive branch from Israel. The photos of your children playing on the beach.

If I asked why you keep these around, the answer would seem obvious. Because they remind you of special people, things, or events in your life.

Tossing out the things is tantamount to tossing out the memories. We might lose touch, move on, even forget how much we treasure each special memory.

There’s nothing wrong with hanging on to a keepsake to spark a memory, one that’s special to us.

How do we spark wonderful memories of the Lord? You know, the miracles he’s performed, the times he’s kept us safe or provided for us when life seemed determined to knock us to our knees?

1 Chronicles 16:11-12 (NIV) tells us:

"Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced."

We read in this verse that we are to do five things. Let’s look at each of them and insert a “how” to see the way it’s done.

First Thing We Must Do: Look to the Lord and his strength.

When trouble surrounds us, step closer to God. Remind him (and yourself) of how he helped you in the past.

Second Thing We Must Do: Seek his face always.

Take time to pause and consider how God plays into your plans. His guidance will make your path straight.

Third Thing We Must Do: Remember the wonders he has done.

Tell the stories to your children so they can remind you. Start with, “Remember when?”

Fourth Thing We Must Do: Remember his miracles.

Write them down and leave them in your Bible. Each time you open the pages, you will rediscover them and worship God anew.

Fifth Thing We Must Do: Remember the judgments he pronounced.

Make a “faith record” in a journal or on a chart. Put it on your desk or on the back of a door. Let it remind you that God is faithful to his word.

Jesus must be the core of our lives. Our joy and peace come from walking closely with him. We must align our actions and decisions with his teachings.

We need to keep reminders of his love and encouragement around us, for in him, we find our strength and purpose.

Our encouragement comes through remembering what the Lord has done. Let’s seek him today.
