Bullseye Connection with God

What is a bullseye?

Not part of a bull! Then, we knew that.

This word is a figure of speech, a way of saying something in a non-literal way.

So, bullseye. What say you? How about goal, mark, objective, target, or even essence?

The difference between each of these is the connotation determined by the surrounding words, or the context clues.

If your business is raising its sales expectations, that’s a fresh goal to aim for.

The discovery of a new species in a new location might mean the biologist is on the mark in his predictions.

An investment banker can target a retirement age of 50 … and hopefully invest wisely.

A scientist might throw out aberrant results as she refines the essence of her research.

What does bullseye mean to the Christian?

Colossians 3:17 (NIV) spins this up perfectly:

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Our goal … do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Our mark … whatever we do.

Our objective … give thanks to God.

Our target … directly to the Father.

The essence … every word or deed.

Put these together, and we begin to see our bullseye connection with God. It’s us, everything about us, all pointed toward him, filled with thanksgiving, and offered in the name of Christ.

Now you know. Let’s get to it!
